Today marks the third anniversary of Kawakami Tomoko’s passing away, after she had suffered a three-year long battle with ovarian cancer. Tomoko voiced many famous anime characters across many genres, well-known to both otaku and the general public. In fact, she had still been voicing some of these roles throughout her illness although she eventually got too sick and had to pass the baton on to friends and colleagues. Tomoko was also baptised as a Catholic after learning of her illness, and took on the name Cecilia.
2014 would have been her 20th year as a professional voice actress. Her most beloved roles include Misuzu in AIR, Athena in ARIA, Hikaru in Hikaru no Go and Utena in Kakumei Shoujo Utena.
The roles she passed on to others:
Keroro’s Hinata Fuyuki (Kuwashima Houko)
